Christian Dior established Parfums Christian Dior in 1947.
The perfume division was created in the same year that Dior presented his first couture collection. His first fragrance, Miss Dior, was introduced in 1947 and helped make fragrance an essential part of the new fashion house’s identity.
Dior treated perfume as an extension of couture rather than as a separate accessory business. The fragrance division allowed customers who could not buy haute couture to participate in the Dior world through scent, while also strengthening the house’s commercial reach.
The date can be confused with 1946, the year Christian Dior founded his couture house in Paris. The fashion house came first; Parfums Christian Dior and Miss Dior followed in 1947.
