In which year did Alfred Hitchcock die?

Alfred Hitchcock died in 1980, ending the life of one of cinema’s most influential directors.

Hitchcock died on 29 April 1980 at his home in Bel Air, Los Angeles. He was 80 years old. The reported cause was kidney failure, after a period of declining health. His funeral took place the following day at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly Hills, and his body was cremated.

Born in Leytonstone, England, in 1899, Hitchcock worked in British cinema before moving to Hollywood. Across a career of more than six decades, he directed over 50 feature films, including Rebecca, Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho and North by Northwest. He became known as the “Master of Suspense,” while his brief on-screen cameos became a recognizable trademark.

A common mix-up is confusing Hitchcock’s death year with the year he received his knighthood. He was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1980 New Year Honours, only a few months before his death.
