In which Washington city is Microsoft’s corporate headquarters located?

The story behind the answer

Microsoft’s corporate headquarters is located in Redmond, Washington.

The Redmond campus became Microsoft’s central corporate base as the company expanded beyond its early offices in the Seattle area. Redmond is on the east side of Lake Washington, across from Seattle, in the region commonly known as the Eastside.

The location is sometimes mistakenly identified as Seattle because Gates grew up there and Microsoft’s history is closely associated with the wider Seattle metropolitan area. Microsoft’s official headquarters address, however, is in Redmond. Bellevue and Kirkland are also nearby Eastside cities, but neither is Microsoft’s corporate headquarters.

The campus has grown into a large collection of offices and facilities. Microsoft’s presence in Redmond reflects the company’s long connection to the Pacific Northwest, even as it developed a global workforce and offices around the world.
