In which U.S. state did Georgia O'Keeffe find Ghost Ranch?
Answer
New Mexico
Answer
New Mexico
Georgia O'Keeffe found the landscape of Ghost Ranch in New Mexico.
She first visited the area in 1934 and began spending part of each year there. Ghost Ranch lies near Abiquiú in northern New Mexico, among dramatic cliffs, mesas, and wide desert views. The setting supplied recurring subjects for O'Keeffe, including the red hills and the stark forms of the surrounding terrain.
O'Keeffe often worked outdoors and also used landscape memories to make paintings that were not literal topographical views. Her images transformed particular places into simplified arrangements of color, line, and shape. Ghost Ranch is consequently associated with some of her best-known New Mexico imagery.
The name can cause confusion because O'Keeffe also maintained a home and studio in nearby Abiquiú. Ghost Ranch was a separate property and landscape, although both places are in New Mexico and are closely connected with her career.
