In which two calendar months is the 2026 Perseid meteor shower usually active?

The story behind the answer

The 2026 Perseid meteor shower is usually active in July and August.

The shower develops in mid-July, reaches its strongest activity around August 12, and fades later in August. Earth passes through the broad stream of dust and rocky particles distributed along Comet Swift–Tuttle’s orbit, so meteors can appear for weeks rather than on only one night.

The peak is the period when the encounter rate is highest, but it is not the only time to observe Perseids. Rates rise gradually before maximum and decline afterward. Bright meteors may be visible outside the central peak as well.

The Perseids’ midsummer timing makes them popular in the Northern Hemisphere. Warm evenings are convenient for observers, although clear, dark skies and the radiant’s altitude matter more than the calendar season alone.
