In which Tokyo district is Sukiyabashi Jiro located?
Answer
Ginza
Answer
Ginza
Sukiyabashi Jiro is located in Ginza, a famous district of Chūō, Tokyo.
The restaurant’s address is in Ginza 4-chome, in the basement of the Tsukamoto Sogyo Building. It is associated with chef Jiro Ono and became internationally famous for its small counter, tightly controlled reservations, and traditional edomae-sushi style.
Sukiyabashi Jiro was the first sushi restaurant to receive three Michelin stars, holding that distinction from 2007 until 2019. It later left the Michelin Guide because it stopped accepting reservations from the general public and required bookings through luxury-hotel concierges.
A common mix-up is Roppongi: Jiro Ono’s son Takashi operates a separate two-star branch in Roppongi Hills. The original restaurant is in Ginza, while the 2011 documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi helped make both the chef and the neighborhood globally recognizable.
