Blue Bell Creameries began making ice cream in Brenham, Texas. The company was founded there in 1907 as the Brenham Creamery Company, initially producing butter from surplus cream supplied by local farmers.
The creamery later expanded into ice cream, and the Blue Bell name was adopted in 1930. It was named after the bluebell wildflower, which is associated with Texas. The company’s home base remains in Brenham, northwest of Houston.
Blue Bell grew from a regional dairy into one of the best-known American ice-cream brands. Its distribution has historically been concentrated in the southern United States, where the brand developed a particularly strong regional identity.
Brenham is often called the home of Blue Bell, but it is not the only place where the company has manufacturing facilities. The original town is significant because it is where the creamery began and where the company’s headquarters remain.
