In the superhero movie Thor, Chris Hemsworth wielded the magical hammer Mjolnir.
Released in 2011, Thor was the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduced Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, the Asgardian god of thunder. In the story, Thor is banished to Earth after his arrogance provokes conflict, while his father Odin places an enchantment on Mjolnir: only someone worthy can lift it.
Mjolnir is central to Thor's identity. It can return to its wielder, channel lightning, and help Thor fly or strike with enormous force. The hammer is inspired by Mjölnir, the weapon of Thor in Norse mythology, although Marvel's version combines mythological ideas with comic-book science fiction.
A common mix-up is Thor: Ragnarok, where Mjolnir is destroyed by Hela. Thor later relies on Stormbreaker, while Mjolnir returns in Avengers: Endgame and is also used by Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder. Even so, the movie that first established Hemsworth wielding the hammer is Thor.
