In which stadium did Messi score his first Champions League goal?

The story behind the answer

Messi scored his first Champions League goal at Camp Nou.

The goal came for Barcelona against Panathinaikos on 2 November 2005, during the 2005–06 Champions League group stage. Barcelona won the match 5–0, and Messi scored the third goal in the 34th minute. It was his first goal in Europe’s premier club competition.

Messi was only 18 at the time and was still establishing himself in Barcelona’s first team. He had made several earlier Champions League appearances but had not scored. The Panathinaikos match marked the beginning of a remarkable European scoring record that eventually made him one of the competition’s all-time leading scorers.

Camp Nou is Barcelona’s historic home stadium in the Les Corts district of the city. It is also commonly written as “the Camp Nou” or “Nou Camp”; these refer to the same venue, though Camp Nou is the club’s preferred Catalan name.
