In which Spanish city was Pablo Picasso born?

The story behind the answer

Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga, Spain.

He was born on 25 October 1881 and given the exceptionally long name Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso. Málaga is a port city in Andalusia, southern Spain, where his father worked as an art teacher and curator.

Picasso spent much of his childhood in other Spanish cities, especially A Coruña and Barcelona, which can cause confusion about his birthplace. Barcelona became particularly important to his artistic development, but it was not where he was born. He later moved to Paris and became one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Málaga continues to commemorate Picasso through institutions including the Museo Picasso Málaga and the Casa Natal Picasso museum, located near the house associated with his birth.
