In which Spanish city is the Gaudí-designed Casa Botines located?

The story behind the answer

In which Spanish city is the Gaudí-designed Casa Botines located? Casa Botines is located in León, Spain.

Gaudí designed and built Casa Botines between 1891 and 1892 for the textile and financial firm Fernández y Andrés. Its name comes from Juan Homs y Botines, an earlier partner in the business. The building occupies a prominent site near the Palace of the Guzmanes and León’s historic centre.

The structure combines a fortress-like exterior with practical commercial planning. Offices and warehouses originally occupied the lower levels, while residences filled the upper floors. A moat, corner turrets, slate roof and the sculpture of Saint George and the dragon reinforce its medieval appearance.

León is sometimes overlooked because Gaudí is most strongly associated with Barcelona. Casa Botines is one of his notable works outside Catalonia, alongside the Episcopal Palace in nearby Astorga and El Capricho in Comillas. Since 2017, the building has housed the Museo Casa Botines Gaudí.
