In which Pennsylvania city was Andy Warhol born in 1928?
Answer
Pittsburgh
Answer
Pittsburgh
Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1928. His family lived in the city’s working-class neighborhoods, and Pittsburgh remained an important part of his biography even after he moved to New York and became internationally famous.
Warhol’s parents, Julia and Ondrej Warhola, were immigrants from the Carpathian region of Europe. His father worked in construction, while his mother was creative and later made drawings and crafts herself. Their home life helped shape Warhol’s interest in images and making things.
Warhol left Pittsburgh after studying commercial art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1949, he moved to New York City, where he established himself as a successful commercial illustrator before turning increasingly toward fine art.
The Andy Warhol Museum opened in Pittsburgh in 1994. It holds the largest collection of Warhol’s work and archival material, linking his birthplace with his later international career.
