In which Oxfordshire village is Agatha Christie buried?

Agatha Christie is buried in the Oxfordshire village of Cholsey, in the churchyard of St Mary's Church.

Christie died on 12 January 1976 at Winterbrook House, her Oxfordshire home near Wallingford. She and her second husband, the archaeologist Max Mallowan, had selected their burial plot at St Mary's about a decade earlier. Mallowan was later buried beside her after his death in 1978.

The church has a long history: it was founded as an abbey church around 986, during the reign of Æthelred the Unready, while much of the present structure dates from the Norman period. Christie regularly attended St Mary's during the roughly 40 years she lived in the parish.

A frequent geographical confusion is Wallingford, because Christie lived at Winterbrook, now associated closely with Wallingford. Her grave, however, is in Cholsey, immediately south of Wallingford, and the village remains a destination for readers following local Agatha Christie trails.
