Wimbledon’s men’s singles final takes place in July. It is normally scheduled for the second Sunday of the Championships, after the tournament begins in late June or at the start of July.
The timing reflects Wimbledon’s traditional two-week calendar. The event is the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, following the Australian Open and French Open and preceding the US Open. Because the Championships are played on grass in the British summer, the men’s final usually falls in the first half or middle of July, although rain or other delays can affect the exact date.
The first Wimbledon final in 1877 was also played in July: Spencer Gore defeated William Marshall on 19 July. A common mistake is choosing June because the tournament often begins during that month. The opening week can indeed occur in late June, but the men’s singles final is held at the end of the fortnight, making July the standard answer. The women’s singles final is generally played on the Saturday before it.
