Keith Haring’s mural Tuttomondo is located in Pisa, Italy.
Haring painted Tuttomondo in June 1989 on the rear wall of the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate in central Pisa. The title means “All World,” reflecting the mural’s message of peace, unity, and harmony. Its brightly colored, cartoon-like figures cover about 180 square meters and form an interconnected composition characteristic of Haring’s visual language.
The project began after Piergiorgio Castellani, an Italian student who met Haring in New York, invited the artist to create a work in Pisa. Haring completed the mural in roughly a week, while crowds gathered to watch. It became one of his few permanent outdoor public works and is among the best-known examples of his art in Italy.
Tuttomondo is sometimes called Haring’s last public mural, but that description is imprecise. He created another mural at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena later in 1989. Tuttomondo was restored in 2012 and remains a major public artwork in Pisa, separate from the city’s famous medieval Leaning Tower.
