In which game does the character Tidus first appear?

The story behind the answer

Tidus first appears in Final Fantasy X, the 2001 role-playing game in which he is the main protagonist. He begins the story as a celebrated blitzball player from Zanarkand, a futuristic city whose destruction suddenly transports him into the unfamiliar world of Spira.

After Sin attacks Zanarkand, Tidus awakens far from home and struggles to understand what has happened. He soon meets Wakka and Yuna, joining Yuna’s pilgrimage as she seeks a way to defeat Sin. Tidus’s outsider perspective lets players learn about Spira’s religion, history, and customs alongside him.

The character returns in Final Fantasy X-2, but that is a sequel rather than his debut. His role there is closely connected to Yuna’s memories and the events of the first game. Tidus also appears in crossover titles, including Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia Final Fantasy, which can make release order confusing for newcomers.

Final Fantasy X was especially notable within the series because it introduced fully voiced dialogue and a more cinematic presentation. Tidus’s first appearance therefore marks not only the debut of a major character, but also a major technological and storytelling shift for Final Fantasy.
