Answer

In which French city was Napoleon Bonaparte born? He was born in Ajaccio.
Napoleon was born on 15 August 1769 at the Maison Bonaparte, the Bonaparte family home in Ajaccio. The city is the capital of Corsica, a Mediterranean island that had recently come under French control. The Republic of Genoa ceded Corsica to France in 1768, just one year before his birth.
His parents, Carlo Maria Buonaparte and Maria Letizia Ramolino, belonged to a Corsican family with Italian ancestry. Napoleon was baptized as Napoleone di Buonaparte and grew up speaking Corsican and Italian before later studying French on the mainland.
Ajaccio remained central to Napoleon’s identity. He spent parts of his youth on Corsica and initially supported Corsican nationalist leader Pasquale Paoli, though he later aligned himself with the French Revolutionary government. The Maison Bonaparte survives as a museum and is one of the city’s best-known historical landmarks.
