Released in 1999, the animated film introduces Thorn, Dusk and Luna as an all-female eco-goth rock band performing in Oakhaven, Massachusetts. Mystery Inc. initially suspects them because Thorn appears to perform a mysterious ritual, but the group soon learns that the band members are not supernatural villains.

The film's central mystery involves Sarah Ravencroft, a supposed witch whose descendant Ben Ravencroft seeks to release her from a spellbook. Thorn becomes important to the resolution because her Wiccan heritage allows her to help imprison Sarah again. Afterward, the Hex Girls perform with Mystery Inc. to help raise money for the damaged town.
