In which English city did Banksy develop his early graffiti career?

The story behind the answer

Banksy developed his early graffiti career in Bristol, England.

During the 1990s, Bristol had a lively graffiti and street-art culture, and Banksy’s early work appeared there before the artist gained international recognition. The city is therefore closely linked with Banksy’s formative period and remains central to biographies of the artist.

Banksy was associated with Bristol’s DryBreadZ crew, commonly abbreviated as DBZ, during this early phase. He later moved toward the sharply cut stencil style that made his images quicker to reproduce and easier to deploy in public spaces.

Bristol is not the answer to every Banksy location question. Many later works appeared in London, Bethlehem, New Orleans, Los Angeles and other cities, but Bristol is the English city most strongly connected with his beginnings.
