In which district of Barcelona is Park Güell located?

The story behind the answer

Park Güell is located in Barcelona’s Gràcia district.

More precisely, the park occupies the La Salut neighborhood within Gràcia, on the southern slope of Turó del Carmel. That location gives Park Güell elevated views over Barcelona and places it beyond the dense central blocks of the Eixample, even though it remains within the city.

Eusebi Güell commissioned Antoni Gaudí to create the project as an upmarket residential garden city. Construction ran from 1900 to 1914, but the original housing venture did not attract enough buyers. Barcelona later acquired the site, and Park Güell opened to the public as a municipal park in 1926.

The district is easy to confuse with nearby areas because the park lies close to Parc del Carmel and is reached through neighborhoods on Carmel’s slopes. Its best-known Monumental Zone includes the serpentine mosaic bench, entrance pavilions, tiled salamander, and Hypostyle Room. The site became part of UNESCO’s “Works of Antoni Gaudí” in 1984.
