In which country is the Eiffel Tower located?
Answer
France
Answer
France
The Eiffel Tower is located in France.
The landmark stands on the Champ de Mars beside the Seine in Paris. Engineer Gustave Eiffel’s company designed and built it for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, a world’s fair celebrating the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.
Construction began in 1887 and the tower was completed in 1889. At about 300 metres tall when finished, it became the world’s tallest man-made structure, surpassing the Washington Monument. Its height changes slightly with temperature because iron expands in heat.
Many artists and intellectuals initially criticized the tower’s industrial appearance, but it became a symbol of Paris and France. It was intended to be temporary, yet its usefulness as a radio-telegraph station helped preserve it. Today, it remains one of the world’s most recognizable monuments.
