In which country is Lake Como located?
Answer
Italy
Answer
Italy
Lake Como is located in Italy.
Lake Como lies in Lombardy, northern Italy, at the southern edge of the Alps. Known in Italian as Lago di Como and historically as Larius or Lario, it is famous for steep mountain scenery, elegant lakeside villages, grand villas, and gardens. The cities of Como and Lecco sit at the ends of two southern branches, while Bellagio occupies the peninsula where the lake divides.
The lake was carved and shaped by glaciers, giving it a distinctive inverted-Y form. Covering about 146 square kilometres, it is Italy's third-largest lake after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. It is also exceptionally deep, reaching more than 400 metres in places, which makes it one of Europe's deepest lakes.
The name can cause confusion because Como is both a city and the lake's best-known namesake. Lake Como is entirely associated with Italy, although the wider Alpine region includes nearby international waterways such as Lake Lugano, which lies partly in Switzerland. Como's location around 40–45 kilometres north of Milan has helped make the lake one of Italy's most popular destinations.
