In which country in the United Kingdom is the town of Usk located?

The story behind the answer

The town of Usk is located in Wales, one of the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom.

Usk lies in Monmouthshire in southeastern Wales, about 10 miles northeast of Newport. The town sits on the River Usk, whose name is associated with the waterway running through the region. A historic stone bridge crosses the river at the western entrance to the town.

Usk Castle overlooks the town from above an ancient crossing point. The settlement also has Roman connections: the nearby Roman fortress of Burrium was established in the area during the first century AD. Later, Usk developed as a market town and became known for local industries and its prison, built in the nineteenth century.

The wording can be confusing because Wales is both a country and part of the United Kingdom. Usk is not in England; it is in the Welsh county and principal area of Monmouthshire.
