In which Connecticut city did Jackie Robinson die?

Jackie Robinson died in Stamford, Connecticut, on October 24, 1972.

More precisely, he died at his home in North Stamford after years of serious health problems. He had suffered a heart attack in 1968, and complications from heart disease and diabetes later weakened him and severely affected his eyesight. He was 53 years old.

Robinson’s death came only a few months after the death of his eldest son, Jackie Robinson Jr., who was killed in a car accident in June 1971. The loss deeply affected him and contributed to his later anti-drug advocacy.

His funeral took place at Riverside Church in Manhattan and drew about 2,500 mourners. He was later buried at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, alongside his son and mother-in-law. Stamford is sometimes confused with nearby Connecticut cities because Robinson’s home was specifically in North Stamford, but North Stamford is part of the city of Stamford.
