In which city were the 2024 Summer Olympics held?

The 2024 Summer Olympics were held in Paris, France, from 26 July to 11 August 2024.

Paris was selected as host at the International Olympic Committee session in Lima, Peru, on 13 September 2017. The city had previously hosted the Summer Olympics in 1900 and 1924, making 2024 its third edition and only the second time a city had hosted the Summer Games three times, after London.

Paris 2024 was centred on the French capital but used venues across the country. Football matches took place in several cities, sailing was held in Marseille, and surfing was staged at Teahupo'o in French Polynesia. The opening ceremony also broke with tradition: instead of taking place inside a stadium, athletes travelled by boat along the Seine.

A common mix-up is confusing the host city with the host country or assuming every event occurred in Paris itself. The Games were branded “Paris 2024,” but their competition footprint extended well beyond the city.
