In which city was The Who formed in 1964?

The Who were formed in London in 1964. Their early members were closely connected with West London, especially Acton, where Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, and John Entwistle grew up and attended school.

The band developed from an earlier group called the Detours, founded by Daltrey in the late 1950s. After changes in personnel and the arrival of drummer Keith Moon in 1964, the group became The Who. For a brief period that year, their manager renamed them the High Numbers, but they soon returned to The Who name.

London's emerging rhythm-and-blues and mod scenes provided the environment in which the band built its reputation. They became known for loud performances, Townshend's windmill guitar style, Moon's explosive drumming, and Daltrey's commanding vocals. The city is therefore both the band's official origin and an important part of its identity. Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool were also major British music centers, but they were not The Who's birthplace.
