The first Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championship was held in Orlando, Florida.
The inaugural championship took place in 2004 at the Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa. It brought together invited players from multiple countries and established the global tournament that later expanded to include Pokémon video-game competitions.
The championship originally focused on the Pokémon Trading Card Game. In 2008, the Play! Pokémon organization added video-game competitions, which became known as the Video Game Championships. Competitors participate in age divisions, including Junior, Senior, and Masters categories.
Orlando is sometimes confused with later host cities because the event returned to Florida in 2008. The 2004 tournament, however, is specifically recognized as the first Pokémon World Championship, making Orlando the correct city.
