In which city was the 2015 international climate agreement adopted?

The story behind the answer

The 2015 international climate agreement was adopted in Paris.

The Paris Agreement was adopted on 12 December 2015 at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, commonly called COP21. It established a global framework for reducing greenhouse-gas emissions and strengthening climate action.

Its central temperature goal is to hold the increase in global average temperature to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels while pursuing efforts to limit the increase to 1.5 degrees. Countries submit nationally determined contributions and are expected to update them over time.

The agreement opened for signature in April 2016 and entered into force on 4 November 2016. Unlike the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, it uses contributions from nearly all countries rather than assigning binding emission targets only to developed nations.
