In which city was the 1787 Constitutional Convention held?

The story behind the answer

The 1787 Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall.

Delegates met from May 25 to September 17, 1787. The convention had been called to revise the Articles of Confederation, but the delegates ultimately designed an entirely new framework for the federal government. George Washington presided over the meetings, and 39 delegates eventually signed the Constitution.

Philadelphia was the political center of the revolutionary era and had hosted the Continental Congress. Its location also made it a practical meeting place for delegates traveling from the states along the Atlantic seaboard.

The convention’s debates produced compromises over representation, taxation, slavery, and executive power. The resulting Constitution was signed at the Pennsylvania State House on September 17, then sent to the states for ratification. Philadelphia later served as the first capital under the Constitution before the federal government moved to Washington, D.C.
