In which city was Paul McCartney born?
Answer
Liverpool
Answer
Liverpool
Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool, England.
He was born James Paul McCartney on June 18, 1942, at Walton Hospital in Liverpool. The city was then a major port and industrial center, and its lively music culture later became central to McCartney’s development as a songwriter and performer. He grew up nearby, in the Liverpool area, and attended the Liverpool Institute for Boys.
Liverpool is also where McCartney met John Lennon in 1957 at a church fête in Woolton. That meeting led to McCartney joining Lennon’s group, eventually developing into the Beatles with George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The city’s clubs, dance halls, and local musicians provided the scene in which the band’s early sound took shape.
A common mix-up is to describe McCartney simply as “English” without mentioning Liverpool, or to confuse his birthplace with London, where much of the Beatles’ later career unfolded. Liverpool remains closely associated with him and with the Beatles’ origins, and the city’s musical heritage is internationally recognized through landmarks such as The Cavern Club.
