In which city is the Lincoln Memorial located?

The story behind the answer

The Lincoln Memorial is located in Washington, D.C., on the western end of the National Mall. The monument honors Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States.

Designed by architect Henry Bacon in a Greek temple style, the memorial was dedicated on May 30, 1922. Inside is Daniel Chester French’s large seated statue of Lincoln, carved by the Piccirilli brothers from Georgia marble. The memorial’s location was chosen along the central axis connecting the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the Potomac River.

Visitors can also read inscriptions of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address inside the chamber. The site later became a major landmark of the civil rights movement: Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech there during the 1963 March on Washington. The memorial is sometimes confused with other Lincoln monuments, but the famous seated statue and temple are specifically in Washington, D.C.
