The annual Hogmanay street party held on Princes Street and around the city centre takes place in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is a major multi-day New Year celebration in Scotland. Its events have included a large street party, concerts, torchlight processions, and a midnight fireworks display viewed from central locations beneath Edinburgh Castle.
The festival’s name comes from Hogmanay, the Scots term for New Year’s Eve and associated celebrations. Modern Edinburgh’s organized festivities developed into a prominent international event in the late twentieth century, building on older Scottish New Year customs such as first-footing and singing “Auld Lang Syne.”
The city is sometimes confused with other Scottish locations that hold their own Hogmanay events. Edinburgh is specifically associated with the Princes Street street party and the castle-centered fireworks spectacle.
