In which city is Amazon's second headquarters (HQ2) located?
Answer
Arlington, Virginia
Answer
Arlington, Virginia
Amazon’s second headquarters, known as HQ2, is located in Arlington, Virginia, in the National Landing area. The site is in Northern Virginia near Washington, D.C., and includes parts of Arlington’s Crystal City and Pentagon City neighborhoods, along with nearby Potomac Yard.
Amazon selected Northern Virginia in November 2018 as one half of a planned split headquarters project. The other half was intended for Long Island City in New York City, but Amazon cancelled that portion in February 2019 after strong local and political opposition. Arlington therefore became the sole HQ2 location.
The project was originally presented as a $5 billion expansion that could eventually support as many as 50,000 jobs. Phase I opened in June 2023. “National Landing” is the district name used for the broader development area, while Arlington, Virginia, is the expected city-level answer to this question.
