In which city did Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera remarry in 1940?

The story behind the answer

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera remarried in San Francisco in 1940.

The couple first married in Mexico City in 1929 and divorced in 1939. Their relationship remained close after the divorce, and they married again in San Francisco on December 8, 1940, which was Rivera’s birthday.

Their second marriage had different financial and personal terms from the first. Kahlo agreed to support herself financially and to avoid sexual relations, although the couple continued living together for periods and remained deeply connected.

The remarriage took place while Rivera was working in the United States. The city is therefore an important part of their shared biography, but it should not be confused with the location of their first wedding in Mexico City.
