The Great Pyramid of Giza was completed in the 26th century BC.

The pyramid was built for Pharaoh Khufu during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty. Egyptologists generally date its completion to around 2560 BC, placing it in the 26th century BC. The project required the organization of a large workforce, extensive quarrying, transport of stone, and careful surveying.

The Great Pyramid originally had a smooth outer casing of white Tura limestone, which gave it a bright surface. Most of that casing was removed in later centuries, leaving the stepped core blocks visible today. The pyramid’s summit also lost its original capstone.

The date is an estimate based on historical chronology, archaeological evidence, and radiocarbon studies. It is distinct from the dates of the two later pyramids at Giza, built for Khufu’s successors Khafre and Menkaure.
