In which building did the Constitutional Convention draft the United States Constitution?

The story behind the answer

The Constitutional Convention drafted the United States Constitution in Independence Hall.

The building stood in Philadelphia and was then known as the Pennsylvania State House. Delegates met there during the 1787 convention, which began with a quorum on May 25 and concluded with the Constitution’s signing on September 17.

The same building had already hosted major Revolutionary-era events. The Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence there in 1776, and the Articles of Confederation were adopted there in 1777.

The convention was originally authorized to revise the Articles of Confederation, but delegates instead produced an entirely new framework of government. Independence Hall is therefore connected to both the country’s declaration of independence and the creation of its federal Constitution.
