The main account of Noah’s Ark is found in the Book of Genesis.
The narrative begins in Genesis chapter 6, gives the Flood and the Ark’s journey in chapters 7 and 8, and continues with the covenant in chapter 9. These chapters describe Noah’s righteousness, the construction instructions, the animals’ entry, the rising and receding waters, and the family’s life afterward.
Genesis is the first book of both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Its name comes from a Greek word meaning “origin” or “beginning,” while the Hebrew title is Bereshit, meaning “In the beginning.”
Other biblical books refer to Noah, including Ezekiel, Isaiah, and the New Testament writings, but Genesis contains the continuous Ark narrative. Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions also develop the story in different ways.
