The 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film in which Tippi Hedren plays a woman attacked by birds is The Birds.
Hedren makes her film debut as Melanie Daniels, a wealthy San Francisco socialite who travels to Bodega Bay to deliver two lovebirds to lawyer Mitch Brenner, played by Rod Taylor. After her arrival, birds begin attacking residents with increasing violence, turning an ordinary coastal community into a place of unexplained terror.
Directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, the film was loosely based on Daphne du Maurier's 1952 short story “The Birds.” Hitchcock expanded the story's basic idea into a feature-length thriller and added the California setting, a family drama, and the mysterious escalation of the attacks. Unlike many horror films, it never supplies a scientific explanation for the birds' behavior.
The Birds is often confused with Psycho, Vertigo, or Rear Window because all are famous Hitchcock films, but their plots and stars differ. The film is also notable for its sound design: Hitchcock largely avoided a conventional musical score, using electronic bird noises and carefully arranged effects to make the attacks feel unpredictable. The production later became associated with allegations by Hedren that Hitchcock harassed her during filming.
