In what year was Vogue magazine founded in the United States?

The story behind the answer

Vogue magazine was founded in the United States in 1892.

Arthur Baldwin Turnure established Vogue in New York as a weekly society and fashion publication. Its early pages covered social events, etiquette, and clothing for an affluent readership rather than focusing exclusively on runway fashion.

The magazine changed substantially after Condé Nast acquired it in 1909. Nast increased its publication frequency, broadened its fashion coverage, and helped develop the highly influential Vogue format known today.

The founding year is sometimes confused with 1909, the year of Condé Nast’s purchase, or 1916, when the British edition began. Those dates mark important expansions, but the original American Vogue dates to 1892.
