In what year was the Mona Lisa recovered after its theft?

The story behind the answer

The Mona Lisa was recovered in 1913.

Peruggia had kept the painting hidden in his Florence apartment for about two years after taking it from the Louvre in August 1911. In December 1913, he contacted the Florentine art dealer Alfredo Geri and offered to hand over what he claimed was Leonardo's original.

Geri brought in Giovanni Poggi, director of the Uffizi Gallery, who authenticated the painting. Police then arrested Peruggia at his hotel on 12 December 1913. The recovery became a national spectacle in Italy, where many people viewed Peruggia as a patriot who had tried to return an Italian masterpiece.

The year can be confused with 1914 because the painting was exhibited in Italy after its recovery and returned to the Louvre on 4 January 1914. Thus, 1913 is the recovery year, while 1914 is the year it came back to its Paris museum. The theft itself occurred in 1911.
