In what year was the first Tokyo Marathon held?
Answer
2007
Answer
2007
The first Tokyo Marathon was held in 2007.
The inaugural race took place on 18 February 2007 and helped establish Tokyo as a major destination on the international road-racing calendar. It replaced several earlier elite and mass-participation events in the city, bringing them together in a single large marathon.
Tokyo later became the sixth member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2013. The race attracts elite competitors from around the world as well as a large field of recreational runners, making it both a high-level competition and a major public event.
A common mix-up is assuming that Tokyo joined the World Marathon Majors when the race began. The marathon started in 2007, but its inclusion in the six-race series came several years later. The course passes landmarks including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Asakusa.
