In what year was the first FIFA video game, FIFA International Soccer, released?

The story behind the answer

The first FIFA video game, FIFA International Soccer, was released in 1993.

Electronic Arts published the game under its EA Sports label, while Canadian studio Extended Play Productions developed it. The game launched for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer and was later released on other platforms, including the Sega Genesis, Super NES and Mega Drive.

FIFA International Soccer was unusual for its time because its camera viewed play from an isometric perspective rather than using the simpler side-on presentation common in earlier football games. It also featured national teams rather than licensed club competitions, helping establish the series’ international identity.

The game began one of the longest-running sports-game franchises. Later releases adopted annual numbering, licensed clubs and leagues, career modes, online play and increasingly detailed player models. It is sometimes confused with FIFA 95, but FIFA 95 was the sequel, not the first entry.
