Taylor Swift’s song “august” was released in 2020.
The track appeared on Swift’s eighth studio album, Folklore, which was surprise-released on July 24, 2020. “august” was not initially issued as a conventional standalone single, but it later gained renewed attention every August as listeners and social-media users brought it back as a seasonal soundtrack.
Swift wrote the song with Jack Antonoff, who also helped produce it. Joe Alwyn was additionally credited as a producer under the pseudonym William Bowery. The song belongs to Folklore’s fictional teenage love triangle involving Augustine, James, and Betty.
The year 2020 can sometimes be confused with 2021 because Swift performed “august” at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2021. Its recording and album release, however, took place the year before.
