StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm was released in 2013.
Blizzard Entertainment launched Heart of the Swarm on March 12, 2013. It is the first expansion for StarCraft II and the second major release in the planned three-part campaign structure. The story follows Sarah Kerrigan as she rebuilds the Zerg Swarm and seeks revenge against Arcturus Mengsk.
The release came nearly three years after Wings of Liberty, which launched in 2010. Heart of the Swarm was followed by Legacy of the Void in 2015, completing the main StarCraft II trilogy.
The expansion is sometimes remembered as a standalone game because it includes a substantial campaign and major multiplayer additions. Officially, however, it is an expansion pack to StarCraft II. Its release also marked the point at which Kerrigan became the primary playable protagonist of the series’ middle chapter.
