Martin Scorsese's film The Irishman was released in 2019. Its world premiere took place at the 57th New York Film Festival on September 27, 2019, followed by a limited theatrical release on November 1 and a Netflix streaming release on November 27.
The film is an epic crime drama adapted by Steven Zaillian from Charles Brandt's 2004 book I Heard You Paint Houses. It stars Robert De Niro as Frank Sheeran, with Al Pacino as Jimmy Hoffa and Joe Pesci as Russell Bufalino. The story spans decades, using extensive digital de-aging to depict its central characters at different ages.
The Irishman is sometimes listed with 2020 because its Academy Award nominations were announced and presented during the 2020 awards season. That refers to the 92nd Academy Awards, not the film's release year. The movie received 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
