In what year was Galileo Galilei born?
Answer
1564
Answer
1564
Galileo Galilei was born in 1564.
He was born on 15 February 1564 in Pisa, then part of the Duchy of Florence. Galileo was the eldest surviving child of Vincenzo Galilei, a musician and music theorist, and Giulia Ammannati. His father’s work exposed him to mathematical and experimental ideas that later influenced Galileo’s scientific approach.
Galileo initially studied at the University of Pisa and later became a professor at the University of Padua. His work ranged from motion and mechanics to astronomy, where telescopic observations transformed European ideas about the heavens.
The year 1564 is also notable because Michelangelo died that same year, creating a memorable historical coincidence between the Renaissance artist’s death and the birth of one of the Scientific Revolution’s leading figures. Galileo died in 1642, the same year Isaac Newton was born.
