In what year did the stadium hosting the 2026 UEFA Super Cup open?

The story behind the answer

The stadium hosting the 2026 UEFA Super Cup opened in 2003.

The venue is Salzburg’s Red Bull Arena, the home ground of Red Bull Salzburg. It was built as part of Austria’s football infrastructure and later became one of the country’s most recognisable modern stadiums.

The ground also hosted three group-stage matches during UEFA Euro 2008, which Austria co-hosted with Switzerland. Those matches gave the stadium major international tournament experience before it received the Super Cup.

Its opening year is sometimes confused with Euro 2008, because the stadium’s profile rose sharply during that tournament. However, the venue had already been operating for five years when the European Championship arrived.
