In what year did the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum open?

The story behind the answer

The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum opened in 1994.

Located in Yokohama’s Shin-Yokohama district, the museum combines ramen history with a ramen-themed food court. Its exhibits cover the development of ramen in Japan and display noodles, broths, toppings, bowls, and other related objects. Visitors can also see demonstrations and information about how noodles are made.

The museum’s basement levels recreate a stylized Tokyo street scene from 1958, the year Momofuku Ando’s Nissin Foods introduced Chicken Ramen, widely regarded as the world’s first instant noodle product. Restaurants representing ramen traditions from different parts of Japan operate within the food court, giving the museum a regional food focus as well as a historical one.

The date is sometimes confused with the history of instant ramen or with Yokohama’s earlier role in introducing Chinese-style noodles to Japan. Those are separate milestones. The museum itself was established and opened in 1994, nearly four decades after instant noodles emerged and about a century after ramen became established in Japan.
