The Pandora Papers investigation became public in 2021.
The Pandora Papers were a major international investigation into offshore finance, coordinated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, commonly called the ICIJ. Journalists examined a large collection of leaked documents from offshore service providers and reported on companies, trusts, and assets linked to politicians, business figures, and other wealthy individuals.
The investigation was published in October 2021. Its findings described how offshore structures could be used for privacy, asset ownership, tax planning, and, in some cases, concealment or corruption. Being named in the reporting did not by itself prove that a person had broken the law.
The title deliberately echoes Pandora’s box from Greek mythology, suggesting that hidden information had been opened and released. The Pandora Papers followed earlier investigations known as the Panama Papers and Paradise Papers.
