“Everybody Dies,” the final episode, was broadcast by Fox on May 21, 2012. The episode follows House as he faces criminal consequences and tries to decide how to spend his remaining time with his terminally ill friend, James Wilson.
House ultimately fakes his own death so he can accompany Wilson during Wilson’s final months. This ending allows the series to preserve House’s apparent death publicly while giving the two friends a private chance to travel together. The episode’s title also echoes the show’s recurring focus on mortality and diagnosis.
The finale did not air in 2011, even though production and promotional discussion began earlier. It also did not mark the end of all related television work by the cast, but it did conclude the original House M.D. story after eight seasons.
